NRA Personal Protection In The Home

Course Goal: To develop in the students the basic knowledge, skills and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding citizen’s right to self defense.

This is an 8 hour course with 3 hours on the range. This personal home protection course includes training in the use of a pistol for home protection using defensive shooting techniques. Strategies for home safety and responding to a violent confrontation are emphasized. Legal aspects of using a firearm for self defense in Alaska are also covered in class.

Participants must have proof of shooting experience, e.g. NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate, NRA First Steps Course Certificate/ NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program (Pistol disciplines), pistol qualification card, military DD 214 with pistol qualification, concealed carry permit, or passing the Pre-Course Assessment.

  • Students must be adult citizens.
  • StudentsĀ use their own pistols or revolvers andĀ provide their own ammunition for this defensive handgun course.
